The Parkdale Intercultural Association (PIA) is a Not-for-Profit, CRA-Registered Charitable organization established to provide settlement services to newcomer immigrants and refugees in the Parkdale community.


Position Title: NSP Settlement Worker (Full-Time, 35 hours/week)

SUMMARY

The NSP Settlement Worker is responsible for direct front line service delivery of the NSP program and outreach to the Parkdale’s community. Individual must be able to work flexible hours.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • University or College degree in Social Services, or equivalency in work and experience.

  • Some experience in community outreach and counselling.

  • Strong program planning awareness and case evaluation skills.

  • Evidence of ability to work in a multicultural, multiracial setting.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, high degree of motivation, initiative, and flexibility.

  • Good understanding of the multicultural and immigrants’ community needs within Metro Toronto and amongst Settlement agencies serving newcomers.

  • Good knowledge of community service resources, Federal and Provincial government policies and programs as it pertains to Settlement services provision. 

  • Working familiarity and knowledge of data base and word processing software.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Vietnamese-speaking ability is a must.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To manage individual client files from intake stage to case resolution.

  • To coordinate and implement basic settlement programs and services within this Settlement Agency; this entails counselling & referral, orientation & information, public education and various general settlement activities.

  • To maintain effective documentation and prepare program and funding reports for settlement work. This includes being responsible for maintaining comprehensive and regular updates of statistical data for reporting and activity tracking purposes.

  • To conduct community outreach activities that enhance the public’s awareness of the PIA’s programs and services within the newcomer community.

  • To plan and help coordinate settlement-related workshops for information purposes to help newcomers and clients address their needs.

  • To participate in various other community development activities related to newcomers needs and services.

  • To assist individuals/families on matters such as: filling and completing immigration Sponsorship application forms and immigration or settlement-related document preparation.

  • To organize information sessions and PIA-focused outreach strategies to promote the PIA’s NSP project activities and services.

  • To liaise with other community service agencies to promote our Agency’s NSP program

  • To provide statistical reports and highlight any trends with regard to the NSP program and also to monitor the changing needs of newcomers.

  • To evaluate the existing NSP Program for its responsiveness to the changing needs of PIA’s clients and also help with PIA’s compliance with all the funding requirements.

  • To evaluate and recommend changes (if necessary) to ensure the utmost effectiveness and comprehensive delivery of this NSP program within the Parkdale community.

  • To report directly to the Executive Director/Program Supervisor

  • Any other duties as required by the Executive Director/Program Supervisor and/or the Board of Directors.
