Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that we are on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishanabeg, the Chippewa, the Wendat, the Huron and the Haudenosaunee Peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis. We acknowledge and thank the first stewards of the land and commit to doing our best to be a good steward as well. To acknowledge the land upon which we live and work, and its original peoples, is to acknowledge truth.

Our Main Services

Parkdale Intercultural Association provides services to all Canadian residents regardless of their immigration status in Canada. Our services fall into three main categories which are listed below. More information on these services is given in the following sections of this website. All services provided by PIA are strictly confidential. English Classes (LINC)

LINC is a language instruction program funded by the federal Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This program provides basic English classes free-of-charge to eligible adult learners. The LINC program seeks to break down barriers among new immigrants and helps promote their speedy integration into the social, political and cultural life in Canada.

Seniors Program

These ongoing series of workshops are offered every Saturday morning/afternoon at our 1365 Queen Street West location. These classes were first offered as activities in a Vietnamese seniors club. Because of this, many of the current participant are Vietnamese seniors. However, all ages and nationalities are welcome to participate in this social event.

Settlement Program

Starting a new life in a new community, especially in another country, is a huge challenge for most people. This is true for many of the newcomers who arrive in Parkdale from all over the world. Fortunately Canadians live in a society that was founded on immigration and that recognizes the importance of helping newcomers integrate and adapt to their new homes.

Newcomer Youth Program

PIA, in partnership with the Parkdale Community Information Centre, has offered the Newcomer Youth Program since 2009. This program reaches out to a wide range of newcomer and vulnerable youth and helps them adjust to life in Canada by providing one-on-one settlement services and a variety of activities.

Resource Centre

These facilities are available in our ‘Resource Centre’, which is located at 1257 Queen Street West, Toronto. The Resource Centre provides government application forms and a wide range of printed material with information on employment, health, education, legal issues and other areas of interest to newcomers to Canada.
