Position Title: Teacher LINC Level 2/3/4 – Conversation

Program Title: Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)

Work Week: Tuesdays and Thursdays (2:30PM – 6:30PM and 6:30PM – 8:30)

Location: 1257 Queen St. W.

Funder: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with other teachers to promote the learning and implementation of best practices in teaching.
  • Coordinate curriculum development and teaching activities in consultation with the Language (LINC) Coordinator and PIA’s staff (as approved by the Executive Director).
  • Prepare, plan and deliver settlement and multi-leveled, student-centered, LINC lesson materials and teaching aids.
  • Monitor and record student progress on a regular basis in order to maintain continuous quality improvement standards.
  • Work with the Language (LINC) Coordinator to ensure effectiveness of recruitment, client intake and promotional activities.
  • Work in coordination with other programs and agency staff, where and when required.
  • Research and make recommendations on the purchasing of teaching references, teaching aids and other material to the Language (LINC) Coordinator.
  • Perform any and all required administrative duties: take attendance, call students, submit forms, etc.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Language (LINC) Coordinator and/or Executive Director.
  • Attend team and PIA meetings when requested by the Language (LINC) Coordinator and/or the Executive Director.
  • Adhere to PIA Personal Policies, Procedures and Practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Excellent command of oral and written English.
  2. TESL Ontario Certification from an accredited institution.
  3. A Post-secondary degree from an accredited institution is an asset.
  4. Cross-cultural training or experience in working in a multicultural environment.
  5. Solid working knowledge of LINC and PBLA Program Guidelines and Procedures.
  6. Knowledge of settlement issues.
  7. Possess skills in facilitating group discussion and problem solving.
  8. Excellent command of oral and written English.
  9. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  10. Proven leadership skills.
  11. Strong proven ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  12. Computer literacy.
